Yon's Talk

To those of you
one week away from the Suneung..

Hello. This is Dr. Hong Ji-yeon, director of Yon Clinic.

It has been such a... truly... long time since I last wrote a post. I’ve been trying to pace myself, but there is more work that requires my personal attention than I expected, so I often find myself exhausted after clinic hours. haha;;

Still, I’m writing this tonight even after working late because I’ve been thinking about our students who are facing such an important exam. I have taken my fair share of exams, so I know very well how nervous and anxious this period can be. You will feel better once you are actually in the exam hall, so to all the students and parents reading this, please don’t worry too much and focus on what you are doing right now.

1. Study and solve problems according to the exam schedule.
As you are well aware, the Suneung (CSAT) continues from early morning until late afternoon. Our bodies are governed by the law of inertia and need time to adapt to something. Ideally, it is best to start this method a month before the exam, but one week before is not too late. Study relevant subjects or solve problems under timed conditions during the corresponding exam periods—like language arts during the language arts slot, and math during the math slot. Your body will feel that "oh, this is the time to use my brain for this," which will help your brain activate more smoothly for the relevant subjects during the actual exam.

Tip 02

Do not consume food or medicine
that you are not used to

As an important exam approaches, relatives or acquaintances often visit with various gifts to show support. If it is food or supplements you have never tried before, I recommend saving them until after the exam.

Before an exam, your body is tense and your sympathetic nervous system is heightened, which naturally weakens digestive function. Eating something you don't normally consume can strain your digestive organs, and the energy that should be focused on your brain might be wasted on your digestive system instead.

Unless you are someone who confidently says, "I have nerves of steel, no problem," you must stick to the food you normally eat.

Tip 03 & 04

Condition management
on and before exam day

Even the smallest changes in a student's diet and medication
can have a significant impact on their condition.
Maintaining your usual routine is the most important thing.

Suneung lunch box

3. Pack a lunch with familiar side dishes

Many of you prepare special meat dishes to encourage your children, right? I understand the sentiment 100%, but please don't do it. It could cause stomach pain in the afternoon, so please prepare it like a comfortable home-cooked meal with the side dishes they usually eat.

Medication precautions

4. Take medication at least 1-4 weeks in advance

Occasionally, those who get too nervous at the exam hall really do need medication. However, absolutely do not buy medicine the day before or take random pills! You must start taking it at least a week to a month in advance to let your body acclimate to it.

Tip 05

Routine, routine, routine!!!
Routine is key.

"Just do what you've always done~~~~!!"

Students, just do what you have always done. Do you feel that because it’s an important exam, you shouldn't just do things as usual? Even so, do not try to do anything special.

The stationery you usually use, the clothes you feel comfortable in, the food you usually eat, the snacks you enjoy, the shoes you usually wear, your regular study routine...

All these routines will become your high-quality ammunition and high-performance bulletproof vest, enabling you to "fire" accurately and safely. It is not too late yet. Maintaining your routine throughout this last week will be very helpful.

The importance of routine

"To all the students and parents reading this!!
I sincerely wish you all the best results.
You can do it. Fighting!!!!!"
